You can contact our office (x3330) or visit us on-campus in the Cannavino Library, Suite 334.

*Deadlines for specific program providers may vary. Contact the MAP for details on a specific program provider's application deadline.

Academic Credit

Credit is granted by Marist College; all students receive an official Marist College transcript upon completion of the program. Courses are taught at foreign institutions or by faculty who are hired directly by Marist College. All overseas courses are approved, monitored and evaluated by the faculty and administration at Marist. Students should meet with their home campus advisors to determine how credits will transfer to their individual programs.

Eligibility

To be accepted into a Marist Abroad Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be an undergraduate student (sophomore, junior, or senior) matriculated at a U.S. college or university
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8 (exceptions may be made, so please speak with a MAP coordinator for details)
  • Display maturity and responsibility in social conduct

Students should display maturity and responsibility in social conduct. If you are physically challenged, have a documented learning disability, or have a medical condition that requires treatment, this does not preclude your enrolling in study abroad. However, please make us aware of your situation so it can be determined if your needs can be accommodated at the site at which you wish to study.

Travel Arrangements

You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements. The MAP works with an outside travel agency to assist students with airline reservations and ticketing. You can use this agency, or you can choose another agency or make your own travel arrangements. Whichever option you choose, make sure you give the MAP your travel itinerary prior to departure.

Financial Aid

Marist College students should apply for financial aid as they normally would through the Financial Aid office. Most forms of aid from the college may be used for study abroad during fall and spring semesters, and federal aid also applies. Speak with your financial aid officer for specific details on your aid package.

For non-Marist students: Rules governing the transfer of aid to study abroad vary from institution to institution. Consult with your financial aid office to determine what aid can be transferred for your study abroad program.

Pre-Departure Information

Once you are accepted into a program, you will receive a predeparture packet from the Marist Abroad Program office. The information contained in this packet will answer many of your questions as you prepare to spend a semester or academic-year abroad, such as housing arrangements, what you should bring, and health and safety issues. In addition, you will be encouraged at this time to think more formally about your academic, professional, and personal goals for the coming semester and your plans to fulfill them.

At pre-departure orientation meetings at Marist College, staff and past MAP participants will be available to answer your questions. An onsite orientation for each program is held upon arrival in each host country.

Pre-departure orientation meetings at Marist College are open to all participants. If you are unable to attend on campus orientation, you can contact our staff with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your program.

Faculty and Staff Abroad

Marist College works with Marist program advisors abroad and/or with international offices of our affiliated institutions to oversee the administration of all programs. They are responsible for providing academic counseling, organizing the academic and social components of the program, assisting students in adjusting to their new environment, and arranging for student internships and housing. The instructors at each site are faculty of the host institution. Qualified native speakers teach language courses.
